    Tennessee Sports Wagering Council hits two ‘illegal sportsbooks’ with fines

    The Tennessee Sports activities Wagering Council (SWC) has slapped two ‘unlawful sportsbooks’ with a $50,000 high-quality every.

    The newest fines to the 2 sportsbooks, known as BetDSI and BetNow, take the fines issued to so-called unlawful entities by the SWC as much as $800,000 in whole.

    The council says they “have now served 24 unlawful entities working in Tennessee with cease-and-desist letters and assessed $800,000 in fines…” A complete of seven illegal operators have left the state, together with Bovada, Sportzino, BetWhale, and Kickr.

    It was in November 2024 when the council declared that Bovada would now not be open for enterprise within the state. The Curacao-based sportsbook is unlicensed in Tennessee, and have been required to inform account holders that it’s completely closing Tennessee accounts and returning out there balances.

    Then, just some months in the past, in September, Sportzino shut down its sports-related sweepstakes operations within the Volunteer State. This was adopted by three sports activities gaming entities, BetWhale, Kickr and ReBet, ceasing operations after motion was taken by the SWC in October.

    The council says their mission is to guard the general public curiosity of its residents by means of a protected and controlled sports activities wagering atmosphere. Additionally they say eradicating unlawful sportsbooks and their supporting companies from the state is a main focus.

    “December is usually a time when there may be an uptick in patrons profiting from the accountable gaming instruments authorized sportsbooks are required to supply, ” government director Mary Beth Thomas stated.

    “Unlawful sportsbook operators don’t have any regard for accountable gaming efforts not to mention the legislation, and anybody sports activities betting with an unlawful sportsbook ought to know that they’re sharing their private and monetary info after they wager with identified criminals.”

    The Tennessee Sports activities Wagering Council has a listing of licenses and distributors that are accepted to do enterprise within the space.
