    Kalshi sues Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection

    The prediction market firm Kalshi has sued the Connecticut Division of Client Safety over a cease-and-desist order that was issued on 3 December.

    “The Connecticut Division of Client Safety seeks to stop Plaintiff KalshiEX LLC (“Kalshi”) from providing occasion contracts for buying and selling on its federally regulated trade,” the Kalshi criticism reads.

    It continues to state that the motion challenges the state of Connecticut’s “intrusion into the federal authorities’s unique authority to manage derivatives buying and selling on exchanges” overseen by the CFTC.

    Alongside Kalshi, the Connecticut division additionally sent letters to Robinhood and Crypto.com, with these cease-and-desist notices being for allegedly conducting unlicensed on-line playing, particularly sports activities wagering.

    “Solely licensed entities could supply sports activities wagering within the state of Connecticut,” stated DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli in a statement on December 3. “None of those entities possesses a license to supply wagering in our state, and even when they did, their contracts violate quite a few different state legal guidelines and insurance policies, together with providing wagers to people underneath the age of 21.”

    These two actions, which have each taken place this week, might see a back-and-forth between Kalshi and the Connecticut Division of Client Safety now happen as a result of proceedings.

    The state isn’t the primary to be asking questions on prediction markets usually, with this type of playing proving to be a controversial topic. Kalshi has already been embroiled in authorized instances in Ohio and Nevada on comparable grounds, whereas Robinhood was pressured to pause operations in Nevada, and Crypto.com is facing similar obstacles in Nevada, too.
