Freiberg-based chemical startup CYNiO has efficiently raised over €2 million in funding capital to scale its sustainable know-how for isocyanate manufacturing and strategically develop its product portfolio.
The funding was a results of a joint funding by bmp Ventures with the IBG Innovation Fund and TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, who deliver worthwhile experience and networks to help CYNiO on its path to market readiness.
“Our know-how allows entry to uncommon isocyanates – safely, economically, and on demand,” says CEO Michéle Tille. “This funding is a vital milestone for our workforce, bringing us one step nearer to our imaginative and prescient: to spark the event of modern finish merchandise by our chemical options,” provides CPO Marlene Baumhardt.
Based in 2025 as a spin-off of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, CYNiO specialises within the protected, versatile, and sustainable manufacturing of CO₂-based isocyanates – fully phosgene-free. The corporate develops chemical constructing blocks for analysis, trade, and specialised purposes, closing a vital hole within the worth chain.
The founding workforce behind CYNiO consists of Michéle Tille (CEO), Marlene Baumhardt (CPO) and Sophie Riedel (COO).
This innovation allows protected, versatile manufacturing of even small batches of specialized isocyanates – key constructing blocks in prescription drugs, adhesives, coatings, and foams – important to the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and building industries, amongst others.
In keeping with the corporate, the manufacturing of such specialty merchandise has been severely restricted by poisonous and rigid typical strategies, hindering innovation in each analysis and trade.
Ywes Israel, Principal at bmp Ventures, emphasises the excellent significance for the situation: “With CYNiO, one other extremely modern firm is coming to Bitterfeld-Wolfen, thus strengthening Saxony-Anhalt as a chemical location and Europe as a manufacturing location. I’m delighted that we’re capable of help the normal chemical trade into the long run with this funding.”
The corporate’s first manufacturing facility will likely be established within the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park in Saxony-Anhalt. From this location, CYNiO will provide the European market with new and hard-to-source isocyanates, lowering dependence on time-consuming and expensive imports. Gross sales and advertising will likely be based mostly within the area of Leipzig.
The placement was intentionally chosen so as to bundle central capabilities in a dynamic, technology-orientated surroundings.
Sören Schuster, Managing Director of TGFS: “CYNiO is an excellent instance of how wonderful analysis in Saxony can result in marketable excessive know-how. As a part of the SAXEED community, the workforce constructed up entrepreneurial experience at an early stage and achieved an actual innovation leap in speciality chemical compounds. The cooperation between two Central German VC buyers has made it doable to finance this college spin-off.”
