Canva says no individuals will lose their jobs as integrating its prize synthetic intelligence acquisition, Leonardo.AI, into the design platform, refuting media studies of potential job losses as inaccurate.

The Australia reported that Canva chief working officer and cofounder Cliff Obrecht informed Leonardo’s 150 North Sydney-based employees in a video name final week that the enterprise was being restructured.

Obrecht reportedly informed the Leonardo workers that whereas many within the Leonardo workforce would “straight map” to present AI efforts, others had been inspired to take a look at different roles within the enterprise.

A Canva spokesperson informed Startup Day by day that the enterprise is “not exploring any redundancies and no job losses had been mentioned or communicated to the workforce”.

They stated The Australian didn’t contact Canva to confirm the claims and have have “declined to incorporate our place on the report of their story”.

The studies come amid heightened sensibilities round AI and tech jobs after US fintech Block announced it was cutting 40% of its workforce, 4000 jobs, and Sydney logistics software program platform WiseTech Global announced 2000 coding jobs would go, with each firms citing AI as the explanation.

Canva stated the enterprise was accelerating its deliberate integration of Leonardo “to double down on our broader AI efforts”, after working as a standalone enterprise for the previous 18 months since they acquired the Sydney generative AI startup in 2024 in a deal worth more than $300 million.

“A small workforce will proceed to work on Leonardo as a standalone product, and everybody else will transfer into new groups throughout Canva,” the spokesperson stated.
