    Amazon acquires Zurich-based Rivr, developer of stair-climbing robots for doorstep delivery

    Rivr, a Zurich-based robotics startup growing autonomous stair-climbing legged robots for doorstep supply, has been acquired by Amazon. The phrases of this deal haven’t been disclosed. 

    Marko Bjelonic, CEO and co-founder of RIVR, shared this information by means of his LinkedIn submit. “This step will speed up our imaginative and prescient of constructing Normal Bodily AI by means of doorstep supply, bringing robotics and AI nearer to real-world deployment at scale,” he talked about in his submit. 

    RIVR was initially launched as Swiss-Mile and was based in April 2023 by Dr Marko Bjelonic, Dr Lorenz Wellhausen, Dr Giorgio Valsecchi, and Alexander Reske. It’s a spin-off from ETH Zurich’s Robotic Methods Lab.

    The corporate rebranded as Rivr in January 2025, following a €19.8 million Seed funding spherical in 2024 led by Jeff Bezos through Bezos Expeditions and HongShan. 

    The startup just lately launched RIVR TWO, its next-generation robotic designed for doorstep supply and AI knowledge assortment at scale. In keeping with the corporate, it encompasses a purpose-built payload system designed for unattended supply. The robotic completes deliveries by sitting down and releasing the package deal from the underside, so parcels and meals might be left effectively with out direct human handoff.

    Final yr, in August, Simply Eat Takeaway.com partnered with Rivr to pilot doorstep supply of meals merchandise with its autonomous floor robots. 

    This yr, in February, the corporate introduced the launch of autonomous doorstep supply in Milton Keynes, increasing its partnership with Simply Eat Takeaway.com.
