    General Motors and LG to produce new LMR battery cells for EVs

    Common Motors and LG Power Answer have introduced plans to place lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic battery cells into manufacturing. The cells will likely be utilized in future full-sized vans and SUVs as a part of GM’s Ultium platform.

    The businesses have been working collectively on manganese-rich batteries since 2015, with LG’s unique patent for them relationship again to 2010. LMR cells reportedly provide a 33% greater power density when in comparison with main lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) cells. GM says this characteristic will enhance vary to over 400 miles (644 km) in most of its full-sized electrical automobiles.
